The transfer fee is reported to be approximately £17.3m, consisting of an initial £13m plus potential add-ons of up to £4.3m. Xhaka has agreed to personal terms with Sunderland, signing a three-year contract.
This transfer marks the 32-year-old’s return to the Premier League after previously playing for Arsenal.
“It’s exactly what I wanted, and I have a very good feeling. We are back to where this club needs to be, and we want to stay here to write our own history,” Xhaka shared on Sunderland’s official website.
“I believe I’m ready to contribute to the team with both my experience and quality. We need to find our rhythm on the pitch, but I don’t foresee this being a major issue. It’s been a long wait, but I’m here now and I’m excited for what’s to come.
