The reports started circulating late Saturday on several social media sites, claiming that Hadiza Bala Usman had taken over for Akume.

In a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in response to the development, Akume denied the accusation, calling it false and misleading.

The Presidency has complete faith in Akume’s continued leadership as SGF, as stated in a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations.

In a statement, the office of the secretary to the government of the federation addressed rumours that were circulating online and in some media outlets. The rumours allegedly claimed that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, had removed the secretary to the government of the federation, Sen. George Akume, CON.

The Office would like to stress that the information is totally inaccurate, deceptive, and not based on reality, since the President has zero plans to do so.

Someone is out to mislead and misinform the unsuspecting public about the supposed removal of the SGF from office. It is purely fictitious.

President Tinubu has complete faith in the SGF’s ability to carry out his constitutional duty of developing and executing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda policies and programs.

“We strongly encourage everyone—the general public, news organisations, and online platforms—to not believe everything they read or hear. It is crucial to check the source of information before sharing it, as spreading rumours or intentionally false stories can damage public trust and compromise our institutions.

It is worth noting that the prior press release sent by the SA to Chief Bayo Onanuga, who is the President on Media and Strategy, aligns with the stance taken by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation regarding this issue. As a result, Senator George Akume is still serving as the Federation’s Secretary.
