Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has pledged that his administration will reinstate local government areas throughout the state and restore their functions.

Adeleke made this announcement during a reception held in his honor by the leadership of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the party’s state secretariat in Osogbo on Thursday.
While addressing enthusiastic supporters, Adeleke compared the political challenges facing his administration to the Biblical Pharaoh, emphasizing that those who oppose his government are unsettled by his accomplishments.
“We will restore our local government operations. They aim to keep Osun stagnant. They are astonished by our progress and transformation of Osun; they want to hinder Osun’s development,” Adeleke stated.
He posed a question to party members, “Will you let them, esteemed members of PDP and the good people of Osun State? Should we revert to the past? Should we return to poor governance?”
The governor urged residents to uphold what he termed good governance, while encouraging the public to engage in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) process to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.
“We must maintain good governance. We must keep the momentum going. The positive work must persist. The people of Osun are with us. God is on our side. We will triumph over the Pharaohs that confront us,” Adeleke added.
In their comments, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, encouraged PDP members to stay committed and supportive of the governor.
They also urged party members and residents to actively participate in the CVR in preparation for the 2026 governorship elections in the state.
Local government operations in Osun have been stalled since February 17, due to a power struggle between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of the councils.
The APC asserts that the Court of Appeal in Akure, in its judgment on February 10, 2025, reaffirmed their position.
