The former Governor of Nasarawa State also vowed to assist the commission in revitalizing basic education across Nigeria.

A statement from the Public Relations Officer at UBEC, David Apeh, on Sunday, indicated that Al-Makura made this commitment upon officially taking office at the Commission in Abuja.

Al-Makura further promised to leverage his experience as an advocate for quality education at all levels to enhance basic education in the nation.

The Senator was recently appointed by President Tinubu as the Chairman of the Governing Board of UBEC and was inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.

He remarked, “I value this four-year appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as I am a trained teacher, holding a grade II certificate, a National Certificate of Education, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and social studies.

“As a trained teacher, I opted to teach during my mandatory National Youth Service Corps for a year before I moved into civil service, private business, and politics.

“During my time as Governor of Nasarawa State, I supported the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), and while serving in the senate, I was part of the UBEC committee, making me a stakeholder in universal and quality education at various levels,” he stated.

While also praising Tinubu for appointing Aisha Garba as the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Al-Makura reminisced about their first meeting when he was Governor and Garba was collaborating with the World Bank on a project in Nasarawa.

While acknowledging the efforts of the Executive Secretary since she took office in January this year, the former Governor of Nasarawa State emphasized that Aisha Garba needs all the necessary support to achieve the Commission’s mandate.
