Tragic sports tragedy in Kano: N22 million donated to families of players killed

In remembrance of the 22 athletes lost in the tragic car crash that occurred on the way back from the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the government of Kano State has pledged to pay N1 million to each of their families.

The news was broken by Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, while he was visiting Nasarawa Hospital, where the bodies of the deceased were laid to rest.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was represented by him when he talked. According to Comrade Gwarzo, the event was a tragic and traumatic event.

For Kano and the whole country, today is a tragic day. Some of these young athletes even took home gold medals after proudly representing their state at a national competition. He lamented that their lives were tragically cut short a short distance from their house.

He went on to say that the government would help the bereaved families by supplying food and other necessities.

According to him, Governor Yusuf had directed that the injured athletes get the treatment they needed and that financial assistance be quickly distributed to the relatives of the victims.

According to Gwarzo, the governor has requested that the state government provide complete assistance to the impacted families and ensure that the injured receive top-notch medical care. He promised that the government would continue to help the families and would take the matter seriously.

The seven wounded athletes receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital were also visited by the Deputy Governor, who sought to console them.
