The same day saw the passing of two ex-chairmen of Kano State’s local governments, Abubakar Abdullahi Likita and Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini.

Former Wudil LGA chairman Abubakar Abdullahi Likita passed away while attending the burial prayer of his close friend, the late Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini, who had previously served as chairman of Dala LGA. Earlier, on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, Madakin Gini had killed in an automobile accident.
A few meters from his late friend’s coffin, Likita reportedly slumped during the prayer, according to eyewitnesses. Soon after, his death was officially announced.
The impact was devastating. An individual who had come to pay their respects to one leader found themselves witnessing the tragic loss of another as they arrived at the funeral.
Dr Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, a former deputy governor of Kano state and an APC contender for governor in the 2023 election, was accompanied by Likita, according to sources.

On Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., Likita would gather at his home in the Bompai neighbourhood of Kano to pray Janazah.
