The Senate will begin its public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution in Lagos today, according to Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central).

The formation of a state police force, extensive changes to the voting system, and the creation of 18 new local government regions are just a few of the national concerns that Bamidele said will be discussed throughout the exercise.
With the exception of the North-West region, the Senate has coordinated simultaneous public hearings across other geopolitical zones of the nation in an effort to promote inclusive participation.
The North-West hearing had to be rescheduled due to the demise of Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a famous Kano industrialist and philanthropist, who passed away on Saturday.
The agenda for the two-day hearing was laid out yesterday in a statement by Senator Bamidele, who is also the Chairman of the South-West Zonal Constitution Review Committee.
The forum, he said, gives Nigerians a crucial voice on important issues influencing the country’s system of government.
