Tinubu departs Japan for a state visit to Brazil

On Thursday night, President Bola Tinubu left Yokohama, Japan, heading to Brazil, where he is set to commence a state visit on Sunday, August 24.

According to a statement from his Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President will make a stop in Los Angeles before continuing to Brasília, the capital of Brazil.

furucinovel reports that this journey to Brazil is the second part of Tinubu’s two-nation tour, which started with his departure from Abuja on August 15.

The statement noted that during his trip to Japan, the president had a brief layover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before arriving in Yokohama on the morning of August 18.

While in Japan, the president participated in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, TICAD9, attending both the opening and plenary sessions on August 20.

Tinubu also engaged in several bilateral meetings with Japanese government officials, business leaders, and development partners, focusing on enhancing the relationship between Nigeria and Japan.

The Nigerian leader emphasized the country’s economic reform agenda and sought increased Japanese investment in infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy.

In addition to his official duties, Tinubu wrapped up his visit with an interactive session with Nigerians living abroad on Thursday night in Yokohama.

During the forum, he praised their contributions to national development and encouraged them to continue being positive representatives of Nigeria while seeking opportunities to invest back home.

The presidency indicated that discussions would also cover cooperation in agriculture, energy transition, and regional security, which are areas of mutual interest for both nations.
