President Bola Tinubu has named Mr. Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, located in Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

Presidential spokesperson Mr. Bayo Onanuga announced this appointment in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, explaining that Obih’s selection was made following the passing of a council member.
Onanuga also mentioned that the President appointed Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Akinfeleye previously served as the Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos and is the Chairman of the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television. He has also been a member of the Governing Council at Yakubu Gowon University in Abuja.
Akinfeleye takes over from Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, who is now the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Transport in Daura, Katsina State.
Onanuga further stated that the president appointed Prof. Ibrahim Yakasai as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Tsafe, Zamfara.
Additionally, Mr. Hamisu Yelwa has been appointed as the university’s registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as the Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Liman as the Librarian.
Yakasai, a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army, is currently the Provost of Bayero University’s College of Health Sciences in Kano.
He leads the Committee of Provosts of Medical Colleges in Nigeria and is a member of the governing council at the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State.
Yakasai obtained his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria and later studied in the UK on a European Economic Commission scholarship.
He holds various membership and fellowship titles from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
He completed a Master’s in Medical Education at the University of Winchester and has also earned fellowships in the USA. Yakasai has previously served as the Director-General of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.
