Six months after having a fatal heart attack while preaching at the church, Jakes made the announcement.

Although the decision had simmered for some time, the church only made it public a few months after a near-disaster.

In addition to being devoted to me, you have been faithful to God. While speaking to the congregation at Sunday morning’s service at The Potter’s House, he expressed immense gratitude.

With a repressed expression, Jakes announced that pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts and son-in-law Toure Roberts will assume leadership roles in July.

“As your daughter, I am grateful and honored,” Sarah Jakes Roberts expressed. I’m relieved that you’ve decided to take a nap.”

A huge heart attack that T.D. Jakes had while performing on stage contributed to his choice to start The Potter’s House in 1996, he confessed.

“I couldn’t bear the thought of something bad happening to me and you being left out in the cold, especially after November,” he said.
