The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has indicated that there may be an increase in the salaries of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, senators, and ministers.

Mohammed Shehu, the Chairman of RMAFC, revealed this information, stating that their current salaries are neither sustainable nor realistic.
During a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Shehu pointed out that the salary structure has remained unchanged since 2008, despite the growing responsibilities and economic difficulties.
He remarked: “It is unreasonable to pay the President of Nigeria N1.5 million monthly when the population exceeds 200 million and expect it to be taken seriously.
“You compensate either a CBN governor or the DG ten times more than the President. That is simply not fair. Or you pay him [the head of an agency] twenty times more than the Attorney-General of the Federation. That is completely unjustifiable.”
On the other hand, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized this potential increase, cautioning against raising politicians’ salaries.
The NLC emphasized that it would be unfair for politicians to receive salary hikes while the average Nigerian struggles with inflation and poverty.
