The Nigerian Army provides an explanation for why Corporal Amina Maidoki is still being held

By stating that disciplinary actions within the Nigerian Army are not arbitrary but guided by due process, the Nigerian Army justified Corporal Amina Maidoki’s ongoing imprisonment as necessary to conduct a thorough investigation into the theft accusation against her.

Earlier, furucinovel reported that Amina Sani Maidoki, a female soldier of 25 years old, was detained due to allegations made by Salamatu Faruk Yahaya, the wife of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya (retd), regarding the disappearance of $50,000 from her Abuja apartment.

Corporal Maidoki is still receiving proper care in accordance with military standards, and an inquiry into the situation is being carried out with the highest regard for her legal and human rights, according to a statement by Lt Col Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations.

It is absolutely denied by the Nigerian Army that anyone was denied legal representation or was unlawfully detained. “All these claims are completely false and are made with the intention of misleading the public and appealing to their emotions,” the statement continued.

Concerned for the emotional toll this may entail, the Nigerian Army fully understands the concerns of Corporal Maidoki’s family and urges the public to dismiss bogus submissions, according to the statement. The NA is still available for legitimate conversations and engagements, as long as they don’t conflict with the ongoing investigations and operations.

No member of the Nigerian Army is immune from military discipline or the rule of law, and the army made it clear that it will uphold the rights of those accused regardless of who is at fault.
