His passing was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed. The statement indicated that Alhaji Hardawa died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja following a brief illness.

The late BASIEC chairman was described in the statement as a “distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian,” who left behind a legacy of integrity and fairness throughout his career, including his previous role as a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States.
Governor Bala Mohammed referred to Hardawa as a man of “wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” whose dedication to credible electoral processes contributed to the strengthening of democratic governance at the grassroots level.
The statement also mentioned that the funeral prayer (Janazah) will take place today, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi at 5:00 p.m.
