Sanders slams judge’s detention as an example of Trump abusing his authority to bypass Congress

The Trump administration’s decision to detain Judge Hannah Dugan of Wisconsin’s Milwaukee County Court has been strongly criticized by Senator Bernie Sanders.

Dugan was charged by the FBI with willfully diverting federal officers from her courthouse, enabling Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an unauthorized alien, to elude capture.

Sanders firmly stated that the Milwaukee judge’s arrest “has nothing to do with immigration” in his comments.

Trump is leading the country “toward authoritarianism,” the legislator said, and “illegally usurping Congressional powers.”

According to Sanders, the president is taking legal action against media outlets he finds offensive and is also taking aim at schools whose programs he finds objectionable.

The top Democrat went on to say that Trump is “intimidating” big legal firms that have spoken out against him and that he is “threatening” to remove judges who have ruled against him from their positions of power.

Sanders claims that despite a 9-0 decision by the Supreme Court to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia from El Salvador, the president continues to disregard the ruling.

“Unchecked power” is the central theme of Trump’s most recent assault on the court and Judge Dugan, he continued. “Any institution that gets in his way will be attacked and undermined by him.”

Sanders stated that Trump’s continued disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the division of powers is evidence that he seeks more authority for himself.

A member of Congress who is committed to constitutional government has urged his fellow Republicans to resist his increasing autocracy.
