The Peoples Democratic Party’s chairman, Adolphus Wabara, has been the target of media attacks by the Federal Capital Territory’s minister, Nyesom Wike, who has been instructed to refocus his attention on his ministerial duties. Wednesday, a pro-PDP group in Umuahia—PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress—delivered the message.

They were in response to Wike’s recent media chat in which he attacked Wabara, the former president of the Senate, and claimed that Wabara had supported Abia State’s Labour Party (LP) administration during its campaign.
As the conversation progressed, Wike expressed his astonishment at the lack of condemnation for Wabara, whom he had accused of endorsing Governor Alex Otti’s re-election, but was swift to condemn him for publicly endorsing President Tinubu. However, PDP group chairman Mr. Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu responded to the minister’s statement by saying:
“As a purported PDP chieftain, Wike is busy endorsing President Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign, but he lacks the moral fiber to condemn Senator Wabara for praising the developmental achievements of his state governor.”
“Why does Wike, who poses as a champion of truth, take joy in scolding Senator Wabara for being honest?” At what point did it become illegal to speak the truth? Because Wike was afraid to confront the powerful, the PDP lost Abia in 2023. Elders who spoke up courageously, like Wabara and a handful of others, were despised and scolded. We are all more knowledgeable now.

While stating that nobody would be allowed to destroy the PDP before 2027, the group also challenged Wike to address the actual problems faced by the people of Abuja rather than wasting time with pointless media stunts involving Wabara.
