Remember Tinubu’s broken promise? “Don’t vote for me again” if he doesn’t provide energy, the ADC says

According to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), President Bola Tinubu and his administration have failed to fulfil their campaign pledge to provide Nigerians with uninterrupted electricity within four years. The ADC has criticised Tinubu for this failure. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s interim spokesman, made the statement in a Saturday post on X.

When asked about the president’s campaign promise to guarantee a steady supply of electricity, Abdullahi brought up the promise and urged Nigerians not to vote for him again if he failed to deliver.

With this letter, he wanted to bring President Tinubu’s promise of reliable power to Nigerians within four years to their attention. Indeed, the president did guarantee us power at all times. He was all by himself.

Electricity bills have increased by 240% since Tinubu assumed administration, while the grid has failed 12 times, causing millions of households and businesses to experience recurrent blackouts.

Many people under Tinubu’s Band A-E system only get four or six hours of power each day, and more than 90 million people in Nigeria still don’t have access to electricity. Nearly half of Nigeria’s 50 million households still live in areas without access to grid-based energy.

Still, nothing has changed, Mr. President. Despite the passage of 26 months, the power sector remains unchanged, with no clear plan of action and an absence of urgency.

Millions of Nigerians are still using mobile charging kiosks to charge their phones and hundreds of thousands of dollars are going towards generator fuel, Abdullahi said, adding that we are beyond halfway through this administration’s term.
