The decision to have Felix Zwayer officiate Manchester United’s and Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League final this month was made official by UEFA on Monday. Bilbao will play host to the match on May 21.

Zwayer was handed a six-month suspension by the German Football Association nearly twenty years ago for accepting a £250 bribe.
He was an aide to Robert Hoyzer, a former official who was himself banned for life in 2004 for his role in a match-fixing incident.
Zwayer is set to make her European club final debut in this event. Still, he has presided over some major matches, including the 2023 Nations League final, England’s semi-final triumph over the Netherlands in Euro 2024, and the second-leg Champions League semi-final victory over Arsenal by Paris Saint-Germain.
In 2021, the 43-year-old gained notoriety after Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund at the time, said that Zwayer had “match fixed before” and questioned the team’s decision to assign him the captaincy of their match against Bayern Munich. Bellingham was penalized with a fine of £34,000.
