One measure the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken to combat the alarming increase in traffic accidents is the deployment of mobile courts to public roadways.

While attending UN Safety Week in Benin City, Edo State, this was announced on Monday by the Corps’ Edo State Sector Command.
This was revealed by Ben Akunhe, the Sector Head of Operations. He explained that the deployment was a part of a larger effort to bring road safety to the forefront during the United Nations Global Road Safety Week.
According to Akunhe, in 2010, the United Nations Assembly passed a resolution urging all nations to participate in the program in order to stem the growing number of road accidents, which are a major cause of injury and death globally.
He noted that in order to slow the global increase in traffic accidents, the Assembly has settled on five principles that all countries should adhere to.

Management of road crashes, administration of road safety, safer drivers, safer vehicles, and events following road crashes were among the pillars he named. A safe driving environment is the primary goal of the pillars, according to the Sector Head of Operations.
“We sent mobile courts out into the road to catch the majority of drivers who are breaking the rules of the road, not following the rigorous requirements, and going against the flow of traffic, particularly at Ramat Park and other locations.
The court would try the drivers who made mistakes, and if they were convicted, they would have to pay a fee. He stated that this would discourage others from doing the same.

The FRSC would do all it can to stop the increasing number of road accidents in Edo State and Nigeria, which has been going on for a while, according to Akunhe.
Additionally, he added that the Corps believes that every individual born in Nigeria has an inherent right to life, not limited to those with disabilities or amputees.
