Civil servants in Abia State who have resorted to stealing and corruption as a means of subsistence have been cautioned by the government that they must change or face the repercussions.

Notably, stakeholders now have a phone number and email address to report any unethical activity to the authorities, according to the state government.
During his address to government employees in Umuahia, Mr. Benson Ojeikere, Head of Service for Abia State, emphasised the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and maintaining ethical standards in the civil service.
Ojeikere remarked that the public has an unfavourable impression of the public sector due to widespread fraud and theft, and he urged employees to end these practices so that the civil service might regain its respect and trustworthiness.
Instead of seeking personal or financial benefits, he emphasised the need of discipline, personal drive, and a dedication to quality in the workers’ work. He also challenged them to make sacrifices and concentrate on contributing to their positions’ value.
Workers must adhere rigidly to the new government operational procedures, the Abia Head of Service emphasised, adding that the government will not tolerate any form of sabotage against its plans and programs.
In addition to encouraging public personnel to have an optimistic outlook and self-reflect, Ojeikere asked anyone with a stake in the public sector to report any unethical behaviour they witness by email or by calling 0802 700 0051.
