Dr. Victor Adefesoye, the Director of Disease Control at OSPHDA, shared this information on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting focused on mpox vaccination in Akure.

Adefesoye clarified that while the disease was previously thought to be spread by monkeys, it has now been found to be transmitted by various animals.

He emphasized that the disease is contagious, which underscores the importance of controlling its spread through vaccination in the state.

He mentioned that the vaccination campaign is safe and will take place from August 11 to August 21, targeting individuals aged 18 and older.

“The purpose of this meeting is to help you inform people in your communities, religious groups, and organizations about the importance of getting this vaccine.

The director also mentioned that the targeted individuals will receive two doses of the injectable vaccine at different intervals.

He encouraged the people of the state to adopt a culture of personal and environmental hygiene to promote a healthy society.
