Okigwe North federal constituency: Diverse reactions follow rep’s third term aspiration

The aspiration for a third term by Princess Miriam Onuoha, the representative of Okigwe North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has sparked a variety of responses from her constituents.

A faction known as the Okigwe Zone Youth Mandate has urged the lawmaker to abandon her third-term aspirations to preserve the power-sharing agreement among the local government areas (LGAs) within the constituency. Conversely, another group, the Isiala Mbano United Youth, argued that the lawmaker is constitutionally entitled to seek re-election if she chooses to do so.

In an official press release, Kelechi Uzorma, the Chairman of the Okigwe Zone Youth Mandate, representing the group, expressed that the current representative’s intention to run for the same position again in 2027 would undermine the gentleman’s agreement established among the four LGAs regarding power rotation.

Uzorma emphasized that Princess Onuoha is currently in her second term and advised her against running again in 2027 to uphold principles of equity and fairness. He pointed out that, according to the power rotation agreement, it is Onuimo’s turn to provide the next representative, a decision he believes would promote political stability in the constituency.

In response to the group’s stance, the Isiala Mbano United Youth issued a separate statement to the press, denouncing what they termed an unjust attack on the lawmaker, aimed at preventing her from returning to the House in 2027.

The Chairman of this group, Ikechukwu Ndubuisi, along with Secretary Stanley Chibuike Iwuoha, asserted that the current representative has effectively served Okigwe North Federal Constituency, insisting that there is nothing inappropriate about her desire for another term. They noted that her effective representation has brought significant projects to the constituency.
