Officers place women and children in protective custody after they were rescued from Boko Haram

Claims that the 35 women and their children who were recently freed from Boko Haram captivity are being held in custody have been rejected by CP Adamu Abdullahi Ellenman, the commissioner of police in Niger State.

In July, under the leadership of DSP Ahmed Saidu, members of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Niger State Police Command abducted a group of women and their children from vehicles travelling through Tegina, Madaka, Birnin Gwari, and Yauri in Kebbi State, as reported by furucinovel.

The Boko Haram faction was apprehended, and the women and children were rescued along with three of the drivers of the trucks.

Defying the allegations, Ellenman assured Minna newsmen that the victims and their children are in safe custody and receiving adequate care. These mothers and their children are supposedly doing quite well in protective care right now, as he tells it to you.

Everything they need, even mattresses, has been supplied by the government. By subsidising their food, the government has accomplished a great deal. This whole thing about these women not getting enough care is completely false.

Ellenman pleaded with community leaders and family to cease spreading baseless rumours and assured the public that the victims’ safety and well-being would not be jeopardised.

The victim reorientation is the only thing we are doing before sending them back to their own communities, he said.
