On Sunday, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele joined Christians throughout the world in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. To avoid making the country’s problems worse, he pleaded with leaders everywhere to reject divisive agendas and narratives.

Bamidele, a senator from Ekiti Central, revealed that lawmakers are “in the process of developing legal frameworks for the creation of state police as one of the measures to address insecurity in the country” via the National Assembly.
During his Easter address, the Senate Leader emphasized the importance of Nigerians reflecting on Jesus Christ’s qualities, studying His life of service, and following His mission to seek justice, love, and redemption for all people.
We must reflect on the virtues of Jesus Christ, learn from His consecration, and live our lives purposefully based in the pursuit of justice, love, and redemption for humanity as we commemorate His death and resurrection, the message read.
Jesus Christ purposefully sought and obtained release for the imprisoned, calm for the unsettled, solace for the grieving, love for the discouraged, justice for the downtrodden, and hope for the hopeless, despite the hostility He endured and the opposition He encountered.

If we want to construct a strong federation that can protect everyone’s interests, we must follow Christ’s example and work together as brothers and sisters in Nigeria, not as enemies but as allies, collaborators rather than fighters, and comrades rather than rivals.
Jesus Christ instructed his disciples to love one another and live in peace, yet the recent massacres in Plateau and Benue states completely disprove of his teaching. The repeated statements made by certain political and ideological figures also undermined the principles of tolerance, tenacity, and bravery that He seemed to embody. No nation has ever progressed because one group rebelled against another, and vice versa.
“As the National Assembly is currently working on legislation to create a state police force, we strongly encourage all security agencies to collaborate in order to identify and capture those responsible for and enabling acts of terror across the country.

We pray that certain political players will take a page out of Jesus Christ’s playbook and stop using the country’s problems as a springboard to promote divisive narratives. Instead of engaging in opposition politics, these individuals are exploiting the internal problems of the country to further their own narrow political agendas.
Our ultimate project is Nigeria. It is our collective goal as a parliament to see this initiative through to completion. Since the formation of the 10th National Assembly, this has been a central tenet of our legislative agenda. Also, we want to create a federation that is famous for its prosperity, peace, and advancement around the globe.
“Everyone involved, regardless of their background, political affiliation, or religious beliefs, ought to refrain from saying anything that could cause division and instead work together to defeat the common enemies of Nigeria, rather than undermine our efforts to establish a robust and powerful federation.”
