According to the new legislation, the retirement age for general academic staff has been elevated from 65 to 70 years, while those in the professorial category will now retire at 75 years instead of the previous 70.

The bill was passed after the chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris, who represents Tafa constituency, presented a report.

He noted that this decision is in line with national standards, helps retain seasoned academic staff, and enhances the quality of education.

Additionally, the House decided to call upon the commissioner and permanent secretary of the Ministry of Works to clarify their lack of action on previous directives regarding road safety measures.

This decision came after a report was presented by the chairman of the House Standing Committee on Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna, representing Bosso constituency.

The lawmaker emphasized that this action highlights the House’s dedication to ensuring citizen safety and improving infrastructure.
