The growing violence, numerous kidnappings, and pervasive banditry have left the lives of people insecure, according to the Northern Awareness Network (NAN), which has petitioned President Bola Tinubu to impose a state of emergency in Zamfara State.

Its chairman, Salihu Suleiman, made the following statement: “the situation illuminates the gravity of the situation, the failures of local governance, and the pressing need for a concerted federal response.”
According to the Chairman, armed groups in Zamfara State have been getting bolder as of late, launching coordinated attacks on villages, displacing families, and creating widespread fear among the people. This has left communities traumatized and in need of assistance.
He claimed that the present surge of unchecked violence had made the earlier victories of federal forces in fighting banditry appear like distant memories.
There have been thousands of displaced people, fatalities, and societal ruptures, and the figures are depressing. It is impossible to exaggerate the mental toll that the people of Zamfara have endured.

There is a complete halt to economic activity, families are constantly on edge, and children are not receiving an education. There needs to be a strong and immediate reaction since the security situation has turned into a humanitarian disaster.
Governor Dauda Lawal Dare and the state administration seem to be doing nothing to stem the rising tide of this issue.
The governor’s ability and readiness to fight the robbers who have caused widespread destruction in the state is a major issue, according to NAN.

The misuse of public funds seems to be the governor’s first priority, rather than the safety and well-being of the people. According to the statement, the public’s faith in the government’s capacity to safeguard its residents has been diminished as a result of this carelessness, which has worsened the security difficulties.
According to NAN, the people of Zamfara are in a dangerous situation because their elected officials have abandoned them during times of crisis. They claim that the state government’s inaction has led to an increase in violence and terror.
It observed that the present government is unprepared to fulfill its responsibility to make the public’s safety and security a top priority.
The National Assembly of Nigeria (NAN) has, in response to the worsening security situation, demanded the declaration of a state of emergency in an effort to have the federal government step in and handle the mounting humanitarian crisis. The NAN is presumably hoping that by doing so, the government can more easily deploy its military and police forces to restore order and safeguard communities that are particularly at risk.
A coordinated response involving the military, police, and humanitarian agencies is essential to restore peace and provide much-needed support to the affected communities.
The statement emphasized that federal intervention is crucial when local governance fails to provide security and stability. It also stressed that the capacity of federal resources to address widespread violence cannot be underestimated.
Declaring a state of emergency would reaffirm the federal government’s commitment to protecting its citizens and restoring law and order in a region that has endured too much chaos, the statement said, and would send a clear message to the people of Zamfara that their situation has been acknowledged.
