The suggestion came as American and Iranian officials started talks on Saturday in Muscat, the capital of Oman, about the Islamic Republic’s uranium enrichment program.
There will now be a meeting on May 3 between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
“Both sides agreed to meet again in Europe,” according to CBS News’s source, who said that Saturday’s round of “direct and indirect discussions lasted over four hours.”
The talks “were much more serious than in the past,” Araghchi said on Iranian state media, affirming a slow but steady advancement “into deeper and more detailed discussions.”

“It is not true that all disputes have been settled,” the minister emphasized. “There are still distinct opinions, both on broad topics and in more specific matters.”
The foreign minister of Oman, Badr al-Busaidi, praised the United States and Iran for their shared goal of reaching a peaceful resolution based on durable promises and mutual regard.
The mediator since the beginning of the negotiations, al-Busaidi, revealed in a post on X that all technical issues, as well as fundamental principles and goals, had been resolved.
