After four consecutive titles, City’s 2024–25 domestic season came to an end with a third-place finish. In addition, they will have to pay a seven-figure punishment because they broke the rule many times.

The top flight and Pep Guardiola’s squad, who are in the midst of the Club World Cup, have reached a resolution about the matter.

Teams risk fines if they do not start or begin second half matches on time, as stated in Premier League Rule L.33. Every time a club falls short, they are fined, and the fine gets worse with time.

City was penalised with a fine of £40,000 for the initial incident, but its punishment for the ninth occurrence is £190,000.
