Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye has complimented the league’s referees on their work. Elegbeleye said that the referees from Nigeria are among of the greatest in the world.

This was revealed by him while reviewing the 2024–25 NPFL season. Elegbeleye also reaffirmed his support for referees’ ongoing development.
In his analysis, Elegbeleye claimed, “I’ve travelled around the world and witnessed some shocking officiating decisions—something you hardly see in the NPFL. That is why I can state with certainty that our referees are among the top in the world.
“One Nigerian referee was participating at the recently finished U-20 Championship in Egypt, while another is on the shortlist for the forthcoming WAFCON. Things are looking up.
We’re improving, but there’s definitely space for growth. We rely on the media to assist us in exposing any anomalies and holding the league responsible.
