Assailants broke into the hamlet in the dead of night on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, at about 10:45 p.m., shot randomly and causing terrified people to run.

A mobile police officer stationed at a nearby checkpoint is now receiving treatment for gunshot wounds; the victim, identified as Mr. Nyianshima, colloquially known as “Iron Money,” was slain in the assault.

According to residents, the rapid response of the checkpoint’s security personnel helped control the situation and prevent additional casualties.

A neighbourhood resident related the terrifying events that unfolded as the bullets rang out, describing how terrified the residents flew for cover. People had an opportunity to flee when the security men confronted the assailants.”

“This has happened before. We are attacked in Kadarko, Dooka, Angwan Yaara, and Dooga every time there is a conflict involving the Fulani in Benue. Our farmlands have been taken over, and now we are being hunted,” one neighbour bemoaned.

Aondohemba, a prominent member of the Tiv community, has responded by calling on the state administration and security forces to step in immediately to safeguard the most vulnerable Tiv inhabitants.

He spoke up about how terrified people can’t stay in their own country. No statement has been made public by the authorities regarding the attack as of this writing.
