Former Anambra State governor, Chris Ngige, has shared the reasons behind his decision to not select Chris Uba as his deputy governor, despite Uba’s strong political presence in the state.

Ngige stated that he declined Uba’s candidacy because he feared for his life. He mentioned that with the immunity granted to deputy governors, Uba could easily enter his office and potentially kill him without facing any consequences.
Additionally, he pointed out that the residents of Anambra State never favored Uba, which further influenced his decision.
The former Minister of Labour and Employment revealed this during an interview with Vanguard, discussing the events that led to his impeachment in 2006.
Ngige remarked, “First, if I appointed him (Chris Uba) as deputy governor, he would gain immunity and could walk into my office and shoot me.
“If he did shoot me, nothing would happen. There would be stories claiming that my orderly accidentally did it.
“Secondly, the people of Anambra would rise up against me. This is the more significant reason because the people of Anambra have witnessed all those individuals and they did not conceal their actions. They came and set the state on fire.
