The governor of Niger State, Mohammed Bago, has ordered the arrest of anyone sporting dreadlocks. The order was given by Governor Bago on Tuesday during a security meeting in Minna.

He said the move was an attempt to stem the tide of rising violence in the state capital. If a person is caught with a weapon, even a stick or knife, they should be regarded as an armed robber.
If they are killed, the parents should be made to pay for the bullet before the body is released. He advocated for the abolition of dreadlocks and the subsequent shaving of all dreadlock owners.
On Tuesday, the governor also instituted a statewide curfew from dusk to dawn, which occurred simultaneously with this proclamation.
The governor went on to say that he will punish the state’s instigators of instability with the full weight of his government.
