FCTA extending development to rural areas outside of Abuja city

According to Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT administration is stepping up its efforts to bridge the infrastructure gap between the urban center of Abuja and the rural areas surrounding it.

On Saturday, while touring two rapidly expanding satellite towns under the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Wike made this announcement about the road construction that are now underway in Ketti and Takushara.

Two roads that were examined were the 10.5-kilometer Kabusa-Ketti Road and the 9.8-kilometer Kabusa-Takushara Road. The former connects the districts of Kabusa, Pyakasa, and Ketti, while the latter links the districts of Takushara and Wasa.

The effort, according to the minister, is a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s order for inclusive development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Development should not stop at the city center but should expand to outlying communities, as the president has long stressed, according to Wike.

In May, which happens to be President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, he noted, the two projects—vital connections between the satellite villages and Abuja city—are slated to be finished and launched.

It was Mr. Christopher Maikalangu’s efforts to bring attention to the roads’ significance that prompted the government to step in, and Wike praised him for it.

Our concentration in these areas would not have been possible without him. Wike made a comment about how happy the people of Ketti seemed.

Bringing attention to the importance of rural roads, Wike emphasized that better connectivity will encourage more suburban living, alleviate congestion in the city center, and stimulate development in the surrounding districts.

The distance to the city center is about ten minutes from here. He said that this was the true strength of road networks: the way they connect people and places.

Roads weren’t Wike’s only intention to improve rural areas; he also revealed that new schools will be built in Ketti and Takushara, with their construction set to begin once the 2025 FCT Statutory Budget is passed.

He stressed that, rather than individual estates, the government will continue to prioritize public infrastructure that serves larger communities.

In his Easter message, Wike encouraged the community to put their differences aside and come together in love and forgiveness.

He assured the people of Nigeria that the federal capital territory administration would keep its word and work together for their benefit.
