False promises of grants and contracts have been made to Nigerians by the Central Bank of the country. On Monday, the statement signed by the apex bank’s acting spokesperson, Hakama Sidi-Ali, offered that disclaimer.

This is in response to an uptick in the number of cases where people have asserted their authority to negotiate grants and contracts on behalf of the central bank. Consequently, CBN issued a public warning about what it called fraudulent practices, urging people not to fall for them.
The bank emphasized once again that it will not give out contracts or distribute money through unsolicited messages on social media, WhatsApp, email, or text message.
The country’s central bank has issued a similar warning to the people of Nigeria, stating that it does not use intermediaries or third parties to provide financial services or opportunities to the public, nor does it ask for payments in return for contracts, grants, or financial interventions.
The bank’s official channels and press outlets issued a public advisory on November 18, 2024, yet these misleading schemes have continued, using false and deceptive narratives to target unwary members of the public.

An individual, group, or organization cannot offer contracts, financial grants, or intervention money to the public without the CBN’s authorization, licencing, or appointment of that entity. Such assertions are likewise not endorsed or supported by the CBN.

The national bank of Nigeria made a statement saying that it is still working closely with security authorities to investigate and combat fraudulent acts, and that it is committed to protecting the financial interests of the Nigerian public.
