Aware of the increasing insecurity in some areas of the state, the governor issued a stern warning to the chairmen of local government councils, stating that their regular and active presence at the security council’s monthly meetings is absolutely essential.

The governor voiced his disapproval of reports that some council chairmen have been ignoring their responsibilities in coordinating grassroots security operations while promising to utilise new technologies to combat crime throughout the state at a meeting of high-level security stakeholders in Asaba.

He thanked the state’s traditional leaders and security agencies for their unwavering commitment to combating violent crime in the state, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and others.

With the resurgence of kidnappings, cult clashes and cult-related killings, and drug abuse, he emphasised the importance of the monthly security council meetings for evaluating threats, exchanging intelligence, and coordinating responses to crime.

He urged all parties involved in security to step up their efforts to ensure enhanced peace and security throughout the state.

In addition, he said that data-driven intelligence, crime-mapping tools, and sophisticated surveillance systems will help police departments do their jobs better and decrease crime.

Kidnapping and other forms of insecurity continue to be reported at a high rate. What a horrific development! Instead of taking to social media to incite violence, our young people should team up with law enforcement and vigilantes to stand up to the kidnappers and those responsible for other horrific crimes in their neighbourhoods.

Your dedication to strengthening the state’s security and peace is truly admirable. The governor did say that a lot of work remains, though.

At the security stakeholders’ meeting, HRM Maj Gen Felix Mujakperuo (retd.), Orhue I, chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, thanked Governor Oborevwori and dispelled the myth that traditional rulers in Nigeria sell land to herders for a profit.

At the extended security council meeting, stakeholders were able to reach a consensus on how to address the state’s drug misuse problem, farmer-herder confrontations, cultism, and kidnapping, according to Brig Gen Folu Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Asaba.

“We have been further directed to move back to our respective local governments to take the issue of security further,” said Hon. Possible Ajede, chairman of the Ukwuani Local Government Council, speaking on behalf of the council chairmen. All criminal elements should relocate from the state; this is our position in line with the meeting, and it is a marching order.
