Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, reported that the clashes erupted on Friday in Kaduna village, following the alleged discovery of the body of a farmer named Irmiya Yohanna, aged 40.

Wakil mentioned that the village head, Emmanuel Bulus, informed authorities on August 7 that the farmer had not returned home, prompting a search party to investigate the farm area, which ultimately led to the finding of his body.

A police team, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Fitoka Golda, responded to the report, arrived at the scene, and transported the deceased to Bogoro General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death.

The police spokesperson stated, “Initial investigations indicated that the deceased was likely killed by unknown individuals, which incited some angry locals to attack herders, resulting in the stabbing of around 20 cows, 19 sheep, and injuring several others.”

He added that police managed to rescue approximately 249 cows, and one Ahmadu Mairiga, who is suspected of being involved in the tragic death of Irmiya Yohanna, was arrested.

CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the state police commissioner, conducted an on-site assessment of the incident and met with the chairman of Bogoro, Fulalani heads (Ardo), traditional leaders, Sayawa leaders, and other key stakeholders.

He also spoke to the locals gathered outside the Bogoro Divisional Police headquarters about the efforts and measures being implemented by the command to clarify the situation and ensure peace in the area. The CP urged the Bogoro community to remain patient and cautioned them against any unlawful actions.
