Commuters trapped for hours on the Mokwa-Bida road

A significant traffic jam has caused a complete halt on the 113-kilometre stretch of road connecting Mokwa and Bida in Niger State.

Currently under construction, the road has become nearly impassable due to its poor condition, leaving both commuters and drivers frustrated.

The issue is made worse by the bad state of the road in Agaie, where a large number of heavy vehicles has made travel from Mokwa town to Agaie via Bida extremely challenging for drivers.

Consequently, a trip that should take less than one and a half hours now takes between six to eight hours, depending on how orderly things are. Drivers are being compelled to look for alternative routes, and the rains have only aggravated the situation.

Some commuters who spoke to furucinovel have urged both the Federal and State Governments to step in and fix the road, emphasizing that traveling on the Mokwa-Bida route has turned into a nightmare.

One tanker driver, Musa Abubakar, voiced his frustration, stating, “I’ve been stuck here since morning. If I was transporting perishable goods, they would have spoiled by now.”

A passenger, Taju Olasukanmi, who was traveling from Kwara State, shared a similar story: “I left Ilorin at 7 am and was meant to reach Minna by 1 pm, but I am still here at 6 pm. This is unacceptable.”

Olasukanmi further remarked, “With no alternative routes available, both commuters and drivers are suffering the consequences. We are urging both the Federal and State Governments to take swift action to repair the road and alleviate the hardships faced by those affected.
