During Sunday’s Sallah homage to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House, Alhaji Tajo Uthman, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made the demand. The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, was in attendance.

Uthman claimed that the state had lost a lot of money because of the annual cultural event’s cancellation, since it usually draws in tourists from all over the world.

During the Durbar, he said, Kano receives a lot of money from tourists from all over the world and from all over the country, and UNESCO has recognised it as a heritage event.

According to the commissioner, the cancellation has had a substantial enough economic impact to influence the state’s annual budget.

He emphasised that the federal government should reimburse the state for the economic impact of the cancellations.

He went on to say that they should demand compensation for their losses and that the state’s Durbar celebrations should resume immediately, describing the cancellations as regretful.
