Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Gbenga Daniel, has refuted rumors suggesting that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been admitted to an undisclosed hospital in London.

In addressing the claims, Daniel shared that he made a brief stop in London to update Akpabio about his upcoming return to Nigeria for the August 16th bye-election aimed at filling the vacant seat of the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State, which became vacant after the passing of the former Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon Adewumi Onanuga.
“I am here to officially inform you, Mr. Senate President, that I will be heading back to Nigeria to participate in the August 16th bye-elections for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, which was declared vacant following the death of the late Hon Onanuga.
Your Excellency, there are rumors suggesting that you have been unwell, but seeing you here now tells a completely different story. Congratulations, Your Excellency,” he stated.
In a statement, Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, mentioned that Akpabio was thankful to the Ogun State senator for coming to inform him about the August 16th bye-election and his intention to return home to participate.
The Senate President, however, reassured the former governor that based on the information he has, the ruling party is expected to succeed.
“With the dedication and support of Governor Dapo Abiodun, yourself, and other party stakeholders in the state, we will secure the House of Representatives seat after the election.
“Let me congratulate you in advance, as you possess everything needed to retain that Federal Constituency seat for our esteemed party. You hail from there, and interestingly, the Governor is also from that area, so I have no concerns,” Akpabio remarked.
