After rescuing nine kidnapped victims, local vigilantes engage bandits in gunfight

The town of Kontagora in the Kontagora Local Government of Niger State is home to vigilantes who rescued nine hostages after allegedly engaging suspected gunmen in a gun battle.

According to reports, one vigilante was murdered and another wounded during the gun war between the criminals. Rumour has it that something happened on Thursday night, perhaps between nine and ten o’clock.

The nine people were abducted after the gunmen stormed the towns of Waya and Basawa. On the other hand, the vigilantes’ quick action was reported to have prevented disaster. Bandits stormed the Waya settlement and abducted four people, according to a local eyewitness.

The assailants thereafter relocated to the Basawa hamlet, where five more individuals were abducted, according to the source.

According to the source, the nine unharmed individuals were rescued after the vigilantes in the region quickly rallied and clashed with the robbers at Umma Farms, which is located on the outskirts of town.
