As part of his ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the state, Akume visited with the paramount traditional rulers of Benue State – the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Orchivirigh Prof. James Ayatse, and the Och’Idoma, His Royal Majesty, Agabaidu Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John. On Saturday, the high-level gathering took place in Benue.
While visiting the state, Tinubu appointed the SGF to lead a strategic peace committee that would investigate and report on the causes of violence in Benue and provide solutions that would bring an end to the bloodshed.
Tragic as the latest event was, Akume reaffirmed the president’s determination to put an end to the senseless slaughter in the nation’s food basket and throughout the country.
So that criminals do not penetrate the communities, we are pleading with you to maintain your vigilance. Please do not hesitate to notify us of any breach that you come across. You can always count on the President to deliver.
The SGF, a native of Benue State, made the observation that the participation of the Tor Tiv and Och’Idoma in the peace process shows that the Tinubu government values traditional institutions’ contributions to resolving conflicts, fostering communal discussion, and constructing peace.
The two kings expressed their admiration for the president’s physical assessment and promised the federal government their undivided support in the ongoing peace efforts.
