Bella Shmurda wants musicians from Nigeria to compose music with a purpose

Artists should strive to live lives that inspire others and make music with a purpose, according to Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda.

He was upset that young people in Nigeria were being severely impacted by the music industry, which he said had adopted many Western vices.

Shmurda recently made an appearance on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, where he urged his peers to focus on building lasting legacies rather than amassing ostentatious possessions.

A lot of people in the music business aren’t following their dreams, he remarked. Our industry has transformed into a shining example for everyone to follow.

The American hip-hop lifestyle is influencing everyone to buy flashy jewellery and exotic cars. They instil all that in us to the point that we cause these youths to lose sight of what’s truly important in life.

You should not be doing music for reasons related to motherhood. Now, some artists’ rollout plans aren’t complete without them showing off their expensive automobiles and jewellery. Nothing justifies it. Young people are not being inspired to pursue music because of you.

Ground zero serves no purpose. Everything is secondary to their desire to be in the spotlight and succeed. What effect? Well, there you have it. How would you like to be perceived? In the grand scheme of things, we refer to this as legacy. What kind of mark are we making on these individuals’ lives?

I stopped wearing jewellery after a while. To me, it seems like that’s not my calling. “Vision 2020” is what I ended up with. And that is the goal. There’s meaning in that music.
