The first invitation Felix Agu has received to play for the Super Eagles has left the defender for Werder Bremen ecstatic.

Former German youth international Agu has switched allegiances to Nigeria and is now a member of the Super Eagles squad competing in the Unity Cup invitational event in London.

After a stellar season with Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, the 25-year-old defender claimed he had no trouble changing allegiances.

It was first with me that the Federation was contacted. While in London, Agu spoke with the Super Eagles’ media crew, NFF TV, about his desire to speak with coach Eric Chelle and his positive interactions with the coaching staff.

It was an easy choice for me to travel here after we got the call; being here allows me to reconnect with my roots and my Nigerian side. Therefore, the choice was not too difficult.

On Monday, Agu had his first training session with his new international teammates.

It is expected that the full-back will make his debut on Wednesday when the team faces the Black Stars of Ghana. The staff and players’ warm welcome was something he lauded.

Yeah, we’ve been with the men for over two days now. It has been excellent. According to the athlete, “everyone accepted me pretty well.”
