As far as Furucinovel can tell, seven inmates who were awaiting trial were able to escape from the facility as a result of the incident.
This is a really bad turn of events, according to the governor, who promised the people that they will do all in their power to find out what happened and get the fugitives back in custody.
Adeleke made this point clear during a Thursday visit to the prison with a group of government officials including the heads of the Nigerian Police, DSS, Immigration, NSCDC, and NDLEA.
“The Osun State Government under my leadership will not relent in teaming up with the Federal Government to determine the immediate cause of this jailbreak,” Governor Adeleke stated on Saturday through the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.

The announcement of a ₦5 million reward by the federal government for any person or organization giving credible information that would result in the capture of the fugitives was also recognized by the governor.
“I am here today to have a comprehensive look at what happened here on Tuesday, leading to the escape of seven awaiting trial inmates from your Correctional Centre here at Ilesa,” he said, speaking on behalf of the government and good people of Osun State.
Governor Adeleke promised to take precautions, such as beefing up the facility’s perimeter security and upgrading its lighting systems.

“In order to achieve this goal, we will prioritize the installation of a solar-powered electricity system that will illuminate the Correctional Centre and upgrade the inadequate perimeter wall fencing,” he declared.
To fix the infrastructure problems at the center and avoid future events like this, he stressed that the federal and state governments must work closely together.
The governor extended an invitation to the federal and state governments to “put heads together” in order to address the current state of the correctional center and avoid similar incidents in the future.
The Ilesa Correctional Centre’s controller, C.C. Oluwadele, had previously welcomed the group and expressed gratitude for the state government’s show of solidarity. He let it slip that the convicts broke security by escaping amid Tuesday’s torrential rainstorm.
Oluwadele reassured the visiting team that all parties involved were actively searching for the missing persons and that public identification would be made easier with the publication of the escapees’ biometric data.
He promised to “restore normalcy at the facility” and “re-arrest the seven escapees” by using every possible means.
PRESS NOTES Information has also reached us that the Nigerian Police Force in Lagos State re-arrested 39-year-old Kabiru Oyedun, who had escaped before.
Following a tip-off from members of the public who spotted the suspect and contacted the police, Oyedun was detained on May 21 at approximately 5:35 p.m. in the Oshin-Welder area of Ayobo, a suburb of Lagos, according to the Nigeria Police.
