While addressing a Capacity Building Workshop in Abeokuta, Nigeria, on the topic of “Understanding the Implementation of Inclusive Education Strategies For Supporting Diverse Learners And the Role Of Assistive Technology Integration In Special Needs,” the Commissioner in the Ministry, Abayomi Arigbabu, made this confession.

According to Arigbabu, the training was just one more way the government shows its support for disabled individuals.

He insisted that the Abiodun government had prioritized special education by doubling the amount of free lunches kids receive, providing mobility aids like wheelchairs and white canes, and revitalising the center that made braille books.

The current government has not neglected the five special needs schools when it comes to infrastructure interventions, as the commissioner pointed out. Each school has received sufficient supplies of furniture, contemporary restroom facilities, and newly built or renovated structures.

On the other hand, he urged the educators to show compassion, encourage one another, and push their students to reach their full potential.

“I’m urging our educators in the special education programs to have compassion, to be extremely encouraging, and to assist the students in realizing that they have the potential to be esteemed members of this magnificent nation,” Arigbabu warns.

The workshop’s host, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, stated that its goal was to equip educators with the tools they need to effectively educate students with special needs in the modern era.

Mrs. Deborah Ogundimu, director of special needs education, had earlier stated that the program would help all participants gain a better grasp of inclusive education principles, develop better strategies for diverse learners based on their needs and abilities, and learn how assistive technology can improve accessibility and learning for students with disabilities.

Mr. Oluomo Soyoola and Mrs. Grace Oresegun, two of the participants, expressed gratitude to the Governor for bolstering their course with the credible workshop that assisted them in enhancing their abilities to work with students who have special needs.
