In 2026, Osun: Groups from Osun West want an APC ticket for governor

Organizations within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have reaffirmed their support for designating the Osun West Senatorial District as the site of the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial ticket.

At their monthly meeting in Osogbo on Wednesday, the groups known as The Progressive Frontliners (TPF) and the Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG) released a joint press statement outlining their stances. Osun West’s political growth inside the APC framework was also reaffirmed by the leaders.

The clamor to have the governorship ticket zoned to Osun West is so loud that it must be heard by our leaders, according to Joint Coordinator Ademola Rukayat, who spoke on behalf of the two factions.

All of Osun West’s dues have been paid. The moment has come to restore the district’s proper role in state government.

“We are confident that this move will assist in rebranding the APC as the genuine party championing equity and fairness.”

Claiming to be working to rectify the party’s political imbalance and Osun West’s decades-long marginalization, the alliance denied any hatred behind their stance.

“Despite what they described as consistent loyalty and support, Osun West has failed to produce a gubernatorial candidate under the APC banner since the return to democracy in 1999.”

“It will be nearly thirty years of exclusion as we approach 2026,” Michael Idowu, another Joint Coordinator, stated. Justice must be served, and this is more than an appeal.

This acknowledges Osun West’s dedication to APC principles and is thus both a political and a moral gesture.

Idowu urged his supporters to “reclaim Osun from the PDP” and “correct history” by taking advantage of the current situation.

The organizations portrayed President Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande as father figures to APC members in Osun and throughout Nigeria, and they directed their plea towards party officials.

Members of the Joint Coordination Team, including Joint Coordinator Samuel Iwolode, have pleaded with the authorities to listen to the pleading cries of the Osun children. Our electoral defeats were exacerbated by the marginalization of Osun West.”

The groups went on to say that while deciding who will head the APC in the state in the future, party officials at the federal and state levels should take Osun West’s history of service to the party into account. The speakers all agreed that giving the ticket to Osun West would show that the APC is fair and inclusive.

They stated that if the party came together in this way, it would bring the state together and inspire fresh loyalty and support.

The organizations’ claims of internal marginalization as the cause of the party’s election losses were also voiced at the meeting.

Until the party takes action in response to their concerns, the leaders will continue to advocate on their behalf. They begged APC officials to make sure Osun West has a voice in the upcoming election.

Following the press briefing, the coalition formally requested the Osun APC Secretariat’s assistance by submitting a letter. Whoever is in charge of finances and administration at the Secretariat, Aremu Tajudeen, got the letter.

The head of the APC national secretariat, Ajibola Basiru, has reportedly spoken out against zoning inside the party, according to a previous article in the Furucinovel.

On Monday, Basiru announced this on Facebook. He is also running for governor of Osun in the 2026 election and is hoping to get the APC donor ticket.

Zoning is not a part of our constitution, according to the post. Competition need to be unrestricted. Even though you’ve rejected candidates from other zones due to your insistence on zoning, won’t you still go door-to-door canvassing for their votes? In my opinion, zoning is a bad idea. – Ajibola Basiru, Ph.D., Senator
