Trump lays out the terms for extending the deadline for TikTok

If an agreement is not reached by June 19, the deadline for China-based ByteDance to sell off its U.S. holdings in TikTok, a short video app used by 170 million Americans, would be extended by President Trump.

“I would do my best…” On Friday, Trump spoke with Kristen Welker of NBC News on the show “Meet the Press,” and on Sunday, the interview was broadcasted nationwide in the United States. Trump spoke about his desire to see the project completed.

During last year’s US presidential race, Trump used TikTok to win over young voters. He later declared that he had a “sweet spot” for the app. Even if “TikTok is – it’s very interesting, but it will be protected,” he claims otherwise.

To give himself more time to find a buyer other than China, Trump added two months and fifteen days to the sale deadline in April.

However, Trump’s tariffs on China ruined a possible sale of TikTok. However, Trump told NBC that another reprieve might not be necessary.
