The New York Post reports that within the first 100 days of Trump’s administration, 4,000 student visas were revoked for foreign nationals who were involved in criminal activity.
Among the many charges leveled against the impacted students were those of assault, arson, robbery, and drunk driving.
Consular Affairs and the State Department do not share visa details, according to State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, who stated this at a press briefing.
“Oh, I definitely wouldn’t comment on a printed number,” the official stated.
“Statistics are not something we offer. The topic of numbers is off-limits. All I can say is that it’s not something we offer.
Students who took part in the anti-Israel protests that took place last spring in response to the military operation in Gaza following the Hamas assault in October 2023 are being singled out by the Trump administration.
A court ordered Mohsen Mahdawi’s release from federal immigration prison on Wednesday, and the student from Columbia University was released on bond.
Among the 2014 pro-Palestinian demonstrations at Columbia University was the 34-year-old permanent resident of the United States who was born and brought up in a refugee camp in the West Bank.
While interviewing for naturalization in the middle of April, he was detained at an ICE facility in St. Albans, Vermont, after being apprehended by DHS officers.
Declaring outside the Vermont courthouse following his release, Mahdawi told President Trump and his cabinet, “I am saying it clear and loud: I am not afraid of you.”.
According to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, the judge will not stand in the way of the administration bringing the immigration system back under the rule of law.
“It is a privilege” to be awarded a visa or green card to live and study in the United States of America, McLaughlin said in a statement following the verdict.
“That privilege should be revoked” when one “argue for violence,” “glorify and support terrorists that relish the killing of Americans,” or “harass Jews,” she affirmed.
