During a ceremony in Asaba, Delta State, to formally welcome Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa into the APC on Monday, April 28, Ganduje made this assertion.

According to Furucinovel, Oborevwori and Okowa recently defected to the APC from the PDP, marking the end of nearly 26 years of PDP domination in Delta State. Their betrayal also ceded control of the state’s political system to the governing party.

At the ceremony, Ganduje thanked the other APC governors for their support, noting that the party now has 22 sitting governors due to Oborevwori’s departure.

Thank you to all twenty-one of our executive governors. We now have the 22nd governor. While presenting Oborevwori with the APC flag, Ganduje warned, “Keep your ears and eyes open” because more governors would soon join the party.

On the other hand, former governor Okowa explained their decision by stating that they needed a better connection between Delta State and the federal government in Abuja.

Many people wanted to know why we were changing careers after hearing the news. There is, however, a moment in every people’s history when a calculated step toward the greater good must be made. It wasn’t about the governor or me, Okowa clarified; it was about giving Delta State better access to federal resources and goodwill.

In his statement, Okowa described the defect as “patriotic and strategic,” and he expressed regret that Delta State had missed out on numerous chances while he was in office because to its hostility to federal authority. Among the APC leaders who made the trip to Asaba for the celebration was Vice President Kashim Shettima.
