A collective known as ‘Concerned Fulani Residents of Riyom LGA’ has accused the council’s Chairman, Hon. Sati Shuwa, of marginalizing them in the selection of his aides.

In a strongly worded statement signed by their Chairman, Abdullahi Yusuf, the group expressed disappointment over what they see as an unfair distribution of appointments by the LG leader, noting that only six out of 235 Senior Special Assistants (SSA) and Special Assistants (SA) are Muslims and Fulani individuals.

The statement, titled “Concerns over marginalization of Fulani and Muslim community in appointments in Riyom LGA amidst escalating insecurity,” highlights that this uneven allocation of appointments is a blatant act of marginalization and a significant underrepresentation of the Fulani and Muslim community, who they assert are among the law-abiding voters in the council. A portion of the statement shared with furucinovel states:

“It is both unfair and unjust that in a democratic system, where all citizens contribute to governance, one community is deliberately sidelined in public appointments.

“This situation also reflects a regrettable misplacement of priorities at a time when Riyom LGA is facing unprecedented insecurity.

“Instead of fostering inclusivity and fairness that could enhance trust and unity, our voices and representation have once again been muted in the local governance arena.

“We perceive this significant imbalance as a calculated act of political discrimination that undermines unity, peacebuilding, and inclusive governance.

“As a vital part of Riyom LGA, the Fulani and Muslim communities deserve equitable representation in every decision-making process, particularly in appointments that utilize public funds.

“Rather than allocating limited public resources to an excessive number of political aides, the local government should focus on enhancing security and addressing the pressing issues at hand.
