The traffic jam on the Abuja-Lokoja highway has improved for drivers and passengers as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has opened a second lane for smoother traffic flow

Reports from Koton-Karfe on Tuesday indicated that traffic is flowing easily on both the Lokoja-Kotonkarfe-Abuja and Abuja-Koton-Karfe-Lokoja routes during the early morning hours.

Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, the FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, mentioned that the unfortunate traffic jam, which started on Sunday, has been effectively addressed through decisive actions.

“We took proactive steps by collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Works and the construction companies along the route to explore potential solutions.

“One of the measures is to urge contractors to expedite their work and establish alternative routes to facilitate vehicle movement.

“Currently, the gridlock in Koton-Karfe and surrounding areas has significantly decreased, thanks to the combined efforts of personnel mobilized from RS8.3 Kogi Sector, RS8.33 Koton-Karfe Unit Command, Corridor 3, and Military Personnel,” he stated.

He added that vehicles were redirected to utilize the under-construction Lokoja/Abuja lane to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

The Sector Commander emphasized that the primary reasons for the gridlock were lane violations, lack of discipline, and impatience among drivers of smaller vehicles.

He noted that the FRSC has increased personnel presence at the Koton-Karfe area to enhance visibility and has placed them on high alert to prevent further traffic congestion.

He urged drivers to exhibit maturity and discipline while driving on the highways to prevent a recurrence of the severe gridlock that has caused significant inconvenience to many travelers.

The FRSC has expressed its frustration regarding the impatience of motorists along the Abuja-Lokoja highway, which has led to traffic jams since Sunday.

This gridlock has subjected drivers and passengers to immense hardships, with travelers spending between eight to ten hours on the road.
